Product Features

UAEP is a true HDMI 2.0b 4K@60Hz 18Gbps 444 HDMI Audio Extractor, supports ARC and CEC. (When using Xboxc Series X, please make sure to use 4K@60Hz, not 4K@120Hz.) The HDMI input of the UAEP is to be connected to the HDMI output of an HDMI source, such as a Blu-ray player; the HDMI output of the UAEP is to be connected to the HDMI (ARC) input of the TV.

One HDMI Input to One HDMI Audio and Video Output + SPDIF Toslink Optical Output and RCA L/R Stereo Audio Outputs. HDMI output has the same video and audio signal as the HDMI input signal. HDMI Output supports certified HDMI v2.0 18Gbps cable up to 15ft, for guaranteed performance. Please use premium quality Toslink cable for DD+ application, because all Toslink cables can support Dolbi Digital /DTS 5.1CH audio, but only the best ones can support DD+.

Toslink Optical Output supports audio formats up to DD&DTS 5.1CH and Dolbi Digital Plus, RCA L/R Audio Output supports HDMI stereo 2CH PCM/LPCM audio input, RCA L/R output does not support HDMI audio formats higher than stereo, when HDMI input audio is stereo both Toslink and RCA L/R outputs have audio.

Supports HDMI ARC function Use the ARC button to enable/disable ARC mode, in ARC mode the HDMI ARC audio signal is available from the optical audio output, ARC audio is not supported by RCA L/R output. ARC audio typically uses DD5.1CH AC3 format, a Dolbi Digital receiver with optical input is needed for ARC application and the TV must have an HDMI ARC port. Connect the HDMI output port of the UAEP to the HDMI ARC input port of the TV, connect the optical port of the UAEP to receiver.

UAEP model has three audio EDID settings "Pass" to use TV's speaker for audio, "2CH" to use RCA L/R stereo analog output, "5.1CH" to use Toslink output with a Dolbi Digital surround receiver. In the 5.1CH mode setting, if the HDMI source can support Dolbi Digital Plus / DD+, then it will use DD+, but if your receiver or optical cable doesn't support DD+, please manually disable DD+ in the HDMI source. This model works with AppleTV, FireTV, Shield nicely, but does not work with Roku.

I bought this mainly to get stereo out of an HDMI signal to a cheap TV that has horrible speakers. So far, it has been doing what it is supposed to do. I have it connected between a two port HDMI switch and the TV. It seems to be passing audio all the time. I get audio when I turn the PC speakers that I have hooked to it on, even if the TV is not on. For me, I like that, because it keeps the HDMI switch alive. Before I installed it, I would have to reboot the TV if I wanted to switch sources if the TV was off to begin with. (In other words, turn TV on, switch sources on the HDMI switch, TV has video but no audio, power TV off and back on.) No longer have this problem.I did try the optical out to a HTIB system and got audio, but I can't verify whether I was getting full 5.1 as we just have two speakers hooked up.
