This course really is in depth. If you are interested in learning Metal rhythm guitar technique, this is the series for you. First quickly on presentation then I'll add some information regarding content.Presentation: This book is very well organized and presented. You have tablature, fretboard graphics and also actual pictures to represent the chord types and fingering, so if you're visually inclined and like to see the actual chords, you have the added positioning photographs to help you. The musical theory is represented in a way that helps you to understand how each lesson fits into the overall package of not only guitar theory but metal technique as a whole. You will see some common trends and will probably recognize some of these techniques, as you've seen them being used by your favorite players. Also, the CD supplements are fantastic for letting you hear exactly what you should be producing when you are getting yourself through these lessons. Overall I feel the presentation is 5 stars. He knows his theory quite well and is very versed in presenting it in a way that won't boggle your mind.Content: A lot. Here are just a few examples of what he goes over: Barre chords, strumming approach, harmonic mutes, riffs vs progressions, background theory, transposing Major progressions, sus and add chords, common tones and melodic fragments, uncommon time, odd time, major and minor keys, sixteenth note figures, power chord extensions, using artificial harmonics in riffs, diad shapes, triplets, dropped D tuning, and many more. There are songs also that you learn and can jam along with provided on the CD. You will have fun as well as learn quite a bit.He also includes to teaching aids such as Note names on the fretboard, notation guide, glossary of terms, and keeping tabs on your own killer riffs. There is alot represented here, it will give you more than a solid foundation to work with, and it will help you tremendously if you intend to play metal and create your own music, after all to embrace lead your must first embrace rhythm. I think if you put alot of time and effort into this course, the two volumes are sufficient enough to be a complete course on mastering metal rhythm guitar. I highly recommend this. The book itself is in decent shape, no major tears or rips as stated however, the CD is destroyed. I know I bought a used book but I didn’t think the CD would be damaged. This is a great instruction book oriented to metal guitar. It's easy to follow and Stetina's method is quite effective and if we do what the author says and all the exercises and additionally follow Stetina's recommendations we improve really fast. It's a good idea to buy also the volume 1 and lead guitar primer, which is a companion for this course.I own all Troy's books. All are GOLD and I have learned so much from them EXCEPT this one.The entire book and all examples are stupid barre chords. The title should be changed from metal rhythm to "barre chords."If you don't know barre chords or have no use for them, don't waste your money and time on this book.I have a big library of music books and several of them from Troy and I love them but this one is USELESS!I don't understand the rhythmic value of this book at all.I am trying to cover bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Pantera, ... so barre chords are a waste of time for me.Good read and easy to learn the contentAnything by Troy Stetina is good.Being a guitar player in a metal band for years so playing the parts is not why I got the book. It breaks down the why and I am trying to grow as a musician so I am enjoying this book.Awesome book! I would recommend Stetina's books to any player - new or advanced. Great teacher! As subject line says, i've checked out a lot of his books and find them all really useful with a nice progression from beginner concepts to advanced. Would love to take in-person lessons from the guy.Follows on in the same vain as Vol 1. Good step by step tuition.
